30th Annual Yuba City Sikh Parade Weekend Starts Today, Friday

The 30th Annual Sikh Parade weekend gets under way today, Friday, October 30th with the traditional 48 hours of non-stop prayer. Later in the morning, the Sacramento Food Bank will arrive at the Sikh Temple Gurdwara Yuba City to collect 20 large barrels of donated canned and non-perishable food items that have been donated so far this week by the Yuba City community. The Food Bank will also be dropping off empty barrels for the estimated 75,000 attendees to fill with donated food items.

Later tonight, the Yuba City community will be treated to a special fireworks show starting at 8 pm at the Sikh Temple Gurdwara. Families are encouraged to arrive early, at least an hour before the show, to enjoy colorful lights, the various vendor booths and most of all a free warm and freshly cooked meal.

Sikhs from around the world have started making their annual pilgrimage to Yuba City this week to celebrate a weekend of devotion ending with the traditional Sikh Parade on Sunday. Volunteers are busy preparing 250,000 free meals for visitors and collecting canned food for the Valley’s food banks.

Because of the economic conditions facing the area and in the spirit of the core Sikh value of sharing wealth with others, the Sikh Temple Gurdwara and local food banks are embarking on a food drive this week to meet the anticipated demand this Holiday season. Collection bins have already been set up at the Gurdwara and food is being collected all week and throughout the weekend.

The Sikh Temple Gurdwara invites everyone of all faiths to come out on Friday, Saturday and Sunday to enjoy the weekend long celebration.
